When to go and what is in season
Vancouver food calendar: month by month → What is in season, what to eat and the food festivals each month.
Why these months
Lonely Planet (undated): July-Aug best overall but most crowded and priciest, with wildfire risk; May-Sept warm; March-April and Oct-Nov shoulder with cheaper hotels; rain sets in late October and November is the wettest month. LP's Dec-March section was cut off, so winter is undescribed except Dine Out in Jan-Feb. 'Avoid' November is wet-weather only, our interpretation; month numbers are our mapping of the prose.
In season
- Spot prawns May–Jun
- Pacific halibut Mar–May
- BC asparagus Apr–Jun
- Stinging nettles Apr–May
- Fraser River sockeye salmon Jun–Aug
- BC peaches Jul–Aug
- Blueberries Jul–Sep
- Chanterelles Sep–Nov
Food events
- Dine Out Vancouver Festival Jan
- Vancouver International Wine Festival Mar
- Richmond Night Market Apr
- Spot prawn season May
- Vancouver Craft Beer Week Jul
Closures to plan around
- Many restaurants are closed on Mondays; Scout Magazine (Feb 2024) published a guide to places open Monday and warns hours change unexpectedly.
- No sourced holiday-shutdown pattern found.
Meal costs and tipping (CAD)
- Casual: street food 15-25; Japadog 10-12; quick casual about 20 (Cities Insider)
- Mid-range: 30-70 including main, one drink, tax and tip (Cities Insider)
- Tasting menus from: fine dining 100-250+ (Cities Insider)
- Tipping: Fan Vancouver (2026-07): 18-20% of pre-tax bill, 15-20% in FAQ; Cities Insider: 15% floor, card machines default to 18%; many places add 18% for groups of 6+ - check before tipping again. 5% GST; 10% liquor PST on alcohol.
