How The New Cookbooks is ranked
- Up to 50 points: best-of lists. How many published best-of and season lists named the book, counted on a curve so the 15th list is worth less than the 2nd. New lists are added as they come out.
- Up to 40 points: Chef's read. Do the recipes work, and does the book teach you something only it can?
- Up to 10 points: new. Full marks for the first four months, fading to none at about thirteen.
Books stay on the chart for about a year after they come out. The lists we read:
