Burlington is the University of Vermont's town on Lake Champlain, and it eats well for its size. Honey Road on Church Street won the Seven Daysies for best restaurant in 2025 and 2026, and chef Paul Trombly of Fancy's in the Old North End was a 2026 James Beard finalist. Have a maple creemee on the waterfront, pho at Pho Hong and wood-fired pizza on St. Paul Street. The Saturday farmers' market runs May to October on Pine Street in the South End, and Al's French Frys, a Beard America's Classic, is a short drive out Williston Road.

Food walking tour
A Saturday in Burlington, Church Street to Pine Street
A bagel sandwich, the South End farmers' market, a maple creemee, wood-fired lunch, mezze at Honey Road and a nightcap at Hotel Vermont.
Start 8:00 at Burlington Bagel Bakery, 93 Church StBest days Saturdays May 9 to Oct. 31, 2026, when the market runs 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Start on Church Street, walk south to the Saturday market on Pine Street, have a maple creemee two doors from it, come back to St. Paul Street for wood-fired lunch and end with mezze and a drink downtown.
Pacing: Share the flatbread so there is room for mezze.
Plan B: Out of market season, swap the market for the BTV Market in City Hall Park (last Saturdays, June to September) or go straight to Mr. Creemee, which is open year-round.
Avoid: Book Honey Road ahead; it is the town's most-awarded room.
Bring: Walking times were not measured. The market and Mr. Creemee are both on Pine Street in the South End, south of downtown; take a car or bike if you'd rather not walk.
Skip it if: Skip the creemee only if it's a cold day; Mr. Creemee stays open anyway.
Ends at: Juniper at Hotel Vermont, 41 Cherry St.
Walking times and distances are approximate, and opening hours change: confirm before you go.
