Where to eat in Gainesville

Gainesville is the University of Florida's town, and it eats like north Florida with a student budget: Cuban sandwiches on Tampa bread, pizza in rooms full of junk art, fried chicken sandwiches and sushi downtown. In 2026 it got its first Michelin-recommended restaurant, a breakfast room called Afternoon. Go in spring or fall, eat downtown and just northwest of it, and shop the Wednesday market on Bo Diddley Plaza.
