‹ The Thanksgiving drive · Thanksgiving out
Eastbound: Manhattan to East Hampton · 115 miles · about 2 hours before traffic · 4 stops
Out the Midtown Tunnel and the Long Island Expressway to the end, then Route 27. The North Fork's pie barn on the way, cookies in Southampton, a counter breakfast in Bridgehampton and fried chicken in Noyac: what to bring and what to eat when you get there.
Get: A cream pie (the raspberry cream is the one people line up for) and an apple or pumpkin for the table.
The pie stop of the whole East End. You'll see the line of cars on Sound Avenue before you see the barn.
Where to get off: LIE exit 73, then north to Sound Avenue (a detour toward the North Fork).

Get: The thin, crisp chocolate chip cookies warm from the case, a pie if you didn't stop at Briermere, and a coffee.
Where the cookies in the green bag started. Kathleen King's original shop is still the best place to buy them, and the pies are the real thing.
Where to get off: Route 27 to North Sea Road, at the edge of Southampton village.

Get: Eggs and pancakes at the counter, or a homemade ice cream if you're arriving after lunch.
A hundred-year-old counter that hasn't changed, which is exactly why everyone out here goes. Stretch your legs on the main street after.
Where to get off: Right on Route 27 in the middle of Bridgehampton.

Get: A box of the fried chicken, so nobody has to cook the night you arrive.
The East End's fried chicken, from a family market on Noyac Road. It's also a full butcher and market, for anything the shopping list missed.
Where to get off: Off Route 27 at Bridgehampton up the Bridgehampton-Sag Harbor Turnpike, then left on Noyac Road.

Tell Chef where you're driving from and to, and he'll find the stops worth getting off for.
Briermere Farms in Riverhead (A cream pie); Tate's Bake Shop in Southampton (The thin, crisp chocolate chip cookies warm from the case, a pie if you didn't stop at Briermere, and a coffee); Candy Kitchen in Bridgehampton (Eggs and pancakes at the counter, or a homemade ice cream if you're arriving after lunch); Cromer's Market in Noyac (A box of the fried chicken, so nobody has to cook the night you arrive).
Briermere is a short detour north from the end of the LIE (exit 73); the rest sit on or just off Route 27 and Noyac Road. Order pies ahead: the day before Thanksgiving there's a line of cars.
The LIE backs up from Queens to exit 70 by midday Wednesday. Leave Tuesday night or before 7am Wednesday; on the way home Sunday, leave before noon.
For the rest, call ahead: many close early on Wednesday or close for the holiday.
Every place checked open on November 5, 2026. Hours are the usual ones as listed; holiday hours change, so call ahead the week of Thanksgiving. Miles and hours are estimates from the start of the drive, before traffic. Photos marked "a photo like it" are of the food, not the place. Chef Amazing isn't paid by any place here.
