Studying abroad in Copenhagen

Every meal here costs 120 kr or less.

About $19 US. Typical prices, checked November 2, 2026.

Copenhagen is one of the most expensive cities in the world to eat out in, so the price line here is higher. Students live on porridge bars, smørrebrød at lunch, organic hot dogs and the Reffen street food yard.

Get: Smørrebrød, porridge and coffee at the counters; fruit outside

Pricey for shopping, but the food counters are the cheapest decent lunch in the center.

Directions

The supermarket to find

Netto, Rema 1000 or Lidl

Netto and Rema 1000 are the cheapest. Use Too Good To Go; Copenhagen has more bags on it than almost anywhere.

How students save in Copenhagen

  1. Use Too Good To Go every day: bakeries here sell big bags of the day's pastries for about 40 kroner.
  2. Eat out at lunch, not dinner. Bike everywhere; it's cheaper and faster.
  3. University canteens (KU, CBS, DTU) have cheap student lunches.
