Student eats · November 2026
Every meal here costs 130 kr or less.
About $12 US. Typical prices, checked November 2, 2026.Stockholm is expensive, but students have a trick: 'dagens lunch', a weekday set lunch with salad, bread and coffee for a fixed price. Around it, eat fried herring from a truck, falafel on Södermalm and a fika every afternoon.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner: 265 kr, about $25.
75 krBreakfast
Get: A cinnamon bun (kanelbulle) and a coffee
A fika institution since 1928, with old rooms and pastries in glass cases.
100 krLunch
Get: Fried herring on crispbread with mashed potatoes
A herring truck that's fed Stockholm for decades. Classic Swedish food at street food prices.
90 krDinner
Get: The falafel in bread with all the sauces
Södermalm's favorite falafel spot. Cheap, quick, and better than it needs to be.
90 krLunch
Get: A sausage with mashed potatoes and shrimp salad
A tiny stand with dozens of sausages and a line at lunch. Stockholmers love it.
120 krLate
Get: The Grand Deluxe meal
Sweden's own burger chain, open late. Locals choose it over McDonald's.
Monday to Saturday
Hötorget
Get: Cheese, fish and Middle Eastern groceries; fruit stalls on the square outside
The outdoor fruit stalls on Hötorget are the cheapest produce in the center, especially late in the day.
Willys and Lidl are the cheapest. Systembolaget is the only shop that sells strong alcohol, and it closes early.

Prices are typical, checked November 2, 2026, and move; places with branches all over (chains) are named so you can use any of them. "A photo like it" is the same kind of food, not from that place. Chef Amazing is not paid by any place on this page.
Chef Amazing remembers every place you ate, keeps the lists friends send you, and helps you cook it at home.
