    Scallion Pancakes

    Laoban

Flaky, crisp, oniony pancakes from frozen. Fry one, add an egg and cheese, roll it up, and you have the scallion-pancake breakfast wrap Taipei eats on the way to work.

Launched at Whole Foods in 2025 alongside Laoban's crab rangoon.

Scallion pancake egg wrap (dan bing style)

Pour a beaten egg into the pan, set the pancake on top so they cook together, then flip, add cheese and roll. It's a Taiwanese breakfast stall staple.

    You need

    • 1 Laoban Scallion Pancake, frozen
    • 1 tsp neutral oil
    • 1 large egg, beaten with a pinch of salt
    • 1 slice American or cheddar cheese
    • 1 tsp soy paste or hoisin
    • 1 tsp chili crisp or sriracha

    How to make it

    1. Heat the oil in a skillet over medium heat and cook the frozen pancake as the box says until golden on both sides. Move it to a plate.
    2. Pour the beaten egg into the pan and swirl it into a circle the size of the pancake.
    3. While the egg is still wet on top, press the pancake onto it. Cook 1 minute until the egg sets and sticks to the pancake.
    4. Flip so the egg is on top. Lay the cheese on the egg and spread the soy paste and chili crisp over it.
    5. Roll it up tight, cut in half on an angle, and eat it hot.

Chef's own upgrade, in our words. Save it and it opens in Chef Amazing with a timeline, the prep laid out and what you already have.

Laoban didn't pay to be here. The photo shows a dish like the upgrade, not the box. The recipe is Chef's own, in our words.
