Gluten-free London
Eating gluten free here: Easy
London is one of the easiest big cities in the world to eat gluten free. The law makes every restaurant tell you what's in a dish, coeliac-run places are opening every year, and you can have a proper fish supper, a Sunday roast and a Paris-Brest without a second thought.

Before you go
Every restaurant has to tell you. UK law makes restaurants and cafés tell you if a dish contains any of 14 allergens, cereals with gluten among them. Ask, and they have to answer.
Source: Food Standards Agency Look for the GF symbol. Coeliac UK accredits kitchens that are trained and audited for gluten-free food. Pho, PizzaExpress, MA/NA and Niche carry it.
Source: Coeliac UK Chips are the trap. At most chippies the chips go in the same oil as the battered fish. Only order where they fry gluten free separately, like Hobson's and Fishoria below.
Source: Gluten Free Alchemist Shops make it easy. Every big supermarket has a free-from aisle, and Marks & Spencer's gluten-free range is the one to raid for train snacks and sandwiches.

Watch out for
Sausages and burgers (most British sausages have rusk in them) Gravy and Yorkshire puddings at a Sunday roast Scotch eggs and anything breadcrumbed Chips from a shared fryer Soy sauce at Chinese and Japanese places (ask for tamari) Asafoetida (hing) in Indian dishes, often cut with wheat flour

How Chef checks: every place here says it on its own site, or a coeliac writer who ate there does, and we link which. We checked on October 29, 2026. Kitchens change, staff change: if it's coeliac disease, say so every time. Photos marked "a photo like it" aren't of that place. No place paid to be here.
